Ryan Christopher Burtis
Ryan Christopher was born via cesarean section at 1:23 p.m., Friday, September 3, 2010, to Chere and Michael Burtis in Everett, Washington. He weighs 7 pounds 10 ounces and is 20 inches long. I got to spend the evening at the hospital with Chere and Ryan and other family members. I’m so excited to be an auntie and can’t wait to see this little guy grow up.

Things you shouldn't do while driving...
The nice thing about being stuck in traffic during sunsets is that you can photograph them if you get stopped in the right spots. I did not cause any accidents while shooting these. I did not hold up traffic either. I make no promises that I was at a full and complete stop while shooting. These are my disclaimers for the day. It was a long day. I drove to Portland, Oregon and back from Marysville, Washington to interview a subject on picture editing for my master’s project. The interview went well. Traffic on the way back did not. These are my reward.

Girl's Night Out
Whenever I come to Seattle, it’s inevitable that I end up with good friends eating food somewhere. Cindy put together an impromptu Girl’s Night so that I could see some of the people around town that I would have missed this trip otherwise. It’s always nice to have good food and a lot of laughing with great company.

Riley Bear and the Spider
I feel like I’m writing children’s books with the way I want to title this post. The dog likes to mug the camera and the spider was just hanging out on the porch. The two never met. Although the spider did meet Mr. Bugspray and his demise was soon to follow my portrait of him. The good news, the dog’s still here jumping around like an idiot.
Riley really likes to mug the camera. She finds them interesting. |
This is the spider that was living on Chere's porch. It met its doom via bug spray shortly after I took his picture. |

Alferman Wedding
So I'm finally able to pick up my camera with my one arm and shoot...as long as it's with a fixed lens. I took my 50mm to the wedding in Washington, MO, and these were a couple of my favorites from the day. It was a long day for me because I made it to the ceremony and then had to go back to Columbia to work and then head back for the reception. It was all worth it to see my friends this happy together!

Beach Creatures and Sunsets
Our trip to the Florida Keys this summer yielded all kinds of fun new things to photograph. Here are a few of the offerings from Florida.

My Babies
My cousin's babies really. Skylar (top), 8 months, and Wyatt, 2 years, in Phoenix, AZ, on June 1, 2010. These kids are hilarious and make me smile. It's fun to shoot kids who are just naturally happy. I didn't have to ask him to smile at all. In fact I think he hid from me half the time.

Banana Oil Pan Band
These are some of the selects from a shoot I did of the Banana Oil Pan Band. They are a group out of the Mid-Missouri area that is made up of 2 different pan players, a bassist, vocalist, and percussionist. They played at Rock Bridge High School on Friday night for the incoming sophomore class of students from Jeff Jr High and asked me to come take some "action" shots of them playing. The popular quote of the evening was from parents who said, "I love your music! It makes me want to be on the beach with a drink."

Red Rock Canyon
On my trip to Las Vegas over the last weekend, we got there a little too early and could check into the hotel. So we decided that instead of spending the day on the strip, we were going out to Red Rock Canyon to go hiking and look around. These are some of the selects. Enjoy.

Stump
This is the stump of a cut down tree that used to live in our front yard. I made that stump my bitch today. It no longer resides here. Flowers were planted, mulch was put down, rocks removed, sun burn in tact. It was an honest day's work really.

Babies
I had been telling my roommate that there was a nest in gutters on the house for weeks. Today, he cleaned. Momma flew out and out came 5 little eggs. I think they were going to move the nest to a tree...but I left for work. Good luck baby birdies, Good luck.
Oh. And in the spirit of one of Amanda Lucier's recent blog posts, Like this or Like this?

On a sunny day you...
Some friends came in to town from STL over the weekend because their kids had a U-10's soccer tournament in Jefferson City. Obviously, I had to go take photos. Kids with a ball? I'm in.
Wait? You want me to stand where? So the other kid can kick a ball at me? You're sure?
Keeper kick.
Mom! Where's the meatloaf?! (or a beer...but he's 5.)
The corner kick that goes with the other photo higher up on the page. Check out the kids face in the middle. It's awesome.
The devil in disguise. No really.

Easter Egg (Roulette)
Easter tradition around our house involves a bunch of hard boiled eggs and 5 raw ones. We spend the afternoon dying all our pretty eggs and letting them dry. We have dinner. And then go around the table. Pick an egg. Any egg. If you don't get yolked, you win.
All the pretty eggs.
Poor Spencer. His loss gave Adam this year's win.

Spring in Seattle
Despite the 70 degree weather the week before I arrived, it stormed and rained and was windy most of the time I was visiting. These are some of the things I saw this week.
Rain drops on the car window on the way to lunch.
My parents porch.
My sister's kitty, Bubba.
The rhododendron in front of my parents house.
